Game Overview
Toko Maja is a simple, fun, strategic, family-friendly, and addictive card game.
It combines card collection, majority winning, and risk-taking.
During the game, you’ll need to accumulate three-of-a-kind cards (three identical cards) to score points and earn bonuses. But beware: the cards you have left in your hand at the end will cost you precious points!
How to play?
At the beginning of each round, no one has any cards in hand.
The players begin by removing a few cards from the deck (depending on the number of players, to maintain some mystery), then forming a face-down draw pile in the center of the table. The top three cards are turned over to create three visible piles: these are the discard piles.
Players take turns drawing cards to try to form three-of-a-kind.
A round consists of two steps:
• Step 1 (mandatory) – Add a card to your hand.
Two options are possible:
– take a visible card from one of the discard piles
– or draw two cards from the face-down draw pile, keep one, and discard the other to the discard pile of their choice.
• Step 2 (optional) – Place a three-of-a-kind.
If the active player has three-of-a-kind in their hand, they can place them directly in front of them. They can then claim the corresponding majority token… provided they have more three of a kind of this value than the other players.
But be careful! The round ends immediately as soon as the deck is empty. Everyone then counts their points: three of a kind played + majority tokens… minus any cards still in their hand, which will cost them points.
A game is played over three rounds, and the player with the most points at the end wins.
Toko Maja is a fast-paced, accessible game, but full of small tactical decisions. Will you dare to draw blindly or will you play it safe by picking up a face-up card? It’s up to you… but don’t wait too long, the deck dwindles quickly!
